5th & 6th Class 2019-2020 Sinéad Guiney

September

Welcome to our 5th and 6th class page which will follow all our work and activities during the year. The 5th and 6th class students will update the page reguarly with news and updates from our classroom. September is a busy month as we settle back in .. We have been constructing Norman Moat and Bailey Castles as part of our art with lots of building being done. We have will be starting coding in our classroom for 8 weeks and we are really looking forward to this. We were learning about the Amazon rainforrest and carried out project work on various animals who live in the Amazon Rainforrest

                                                   October and November

We celebrated science week as well as maths week. We worked on many problems and puzzles as well as STEM activities with other classes. We finished our coding classes which we thoroughly enjoyed - I think we have some future scientists and engineers in the class. We started gymnastics with Patsy as well as football with Mike . Some girls in our class took part in a public speaking workshop organised by IRD Duhallow  and they presented their speeches for the class- we were well impressed ! well done girls . We have started reahearsing for our  Christmas pagaent on December 12th and we are really looking forward to this.

                                                                              December

It's December and we are very excited for the holidays. We had a very successful Christmas pagaent. The church was packed to the wrafters with everyone enjoying the nativity story and beautiful Christmas songs. On December 6th we went to lifetime Lab in Cork it was a very informative and enjoyable day for all we explored the areas of sound and light and carried out many experiments and investigations . We are looking forward to performing a few christmas songs in Kanturk hospital to get in the festive spirit..  Nollaig Shona Daoibh go léir

 

January

Happy New Year one and all . January has been a busy month for us . We have been attendign swimminglessons in Mallow  which we have thoroughly enjoyed. We took part in really enjoyable project work based on World War 1 . We really enoyed doing it and learnt so much. Students brought in aretfacts aswell as war medals and memorabilia which was fascinating for us all to see. Have a look at some of our pictures below they are fantastic !!We all displayed our project work in the hall and was enjoyed by other classes. We have begun reading War Horse which links nicely to this tme in history. We listened to songs aswell as watched video clips to get a greater sense of life during this time. We had a lovely day welcoming our Grandparents to the school for Grandparent's Day where they visited our classroom and enjoyed a cuppa

February 

What a fabulous day we had for our confirmation Day . Lots of preparation went  in to preparing us for this special day. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Many of our students also took part in Scór Na bPáistí . Huge congrats to Rachel who won the Duhallow final in the recitation category 

 

                                                                                        March

So Far March has been a really busy month . We started off the Month by attending the FAI 5 a side soccer blitz in Mayfield it was great fun and lots of new skills wer learnt. March 6th-11th was Engineering week. We all studied a chosen engineer/ creator or scientist and spoke to the rest of our class mates about them. With the help of parents/ family at home and even by ourselves we built/ created an item of choice for engineering week. It was amazing to see the work that students put in and no doubt we have some budding engineers in the class. Huge congratualtions to Emma and Janelle winners in the Kanturk Art's Festival Flash Fiction competition. As part of SEachtain Na Gaeilge we have been taking part in many fun activities such as cómhra, tráth na gceist agus cluichí . we are learning "Amhrán na gcupán" and the "Siege of Ennis " and look forward to our Lá na gaeilge in our school.
