First term is very busy with the class settling in and looking forward to lots of work and fun. We have 26 in our class this year. Our photo shows a recent trip to Newmarket to take part in a football blitz. We all had a great day with the girls playing three games. Thanks to Jayne and Emma from Sixth for helping out with the referee job
October- SHAKE 'N WAKE- To promote physical activity in the class, we will do 5-10 minutes of exercise at 9.10 each day in the Halla. This helps to wake up the body and brain. Children need 60 minutes of vigorous physical exercise every day.
NOVEMBER- Science Week- Check out our photos of hovercrafts as we explored the force of FRICTION during Science Week
Well done to Laura Enright who won a prize in the recent Credit Union Art competition for her painting "Dreams are Made of This"
We got to meet chidren's author JUDI CURTIN in the local library. Judi entertained us with her srories of childhood, her love of reading and inspirations for writing. Judi is a very popular writer among the girls and her books disappeared off the library shelf really quickly.
Ten girls competed in the Peil faoi Dhíon football blitz which took place in Mallow recently. This is a new project designed to get children interested in GAA. The girls had great fun and were awarded certificates for their efforts
.DECEMBER- Lots of activities are being planned in the weeks before Christmas. We are preparing songs and music for the Senior Citizens party and carol singing at the Credit Union
A big Thanks to Deirdre O Reilly Cork footballer for coming to our school with the Brendan Martin trophy. Deirdre spoke about her career as a GAA player and encouraged everyone to play sports.

January 2017- Happy New Year from rang a Ceathair!! We are back after a great Christmas break. Swimming lessons start this week and will continue every Friday for six weeks.
Water Awareness Week- Full of ideas and lessons to explore the theme of Water. The girls really enjoyed showing their water experiments. Olivia and Mary took part in the Water flag workshop which took place in Moorepark on January 19th.
Credit Union quiz- Best of luck to Amy, Mary, Emma and Olivia who are taking part in the credit union quiz on 27th January
Grandparents Day- Wed 1st Feb welcomed Spring and our grandparents to the school. We were very busy making and sharing St. Brigid's crosses. A big thank you to the grandparents who visited our classroom. They were treated to music and songs and they also chatted to the girls about their own school days. Eva, our class videographer got it on camera
Friendship Week- Fourth class enjoyed our recent friendship week. They took part in a workshop "The hero Starts with Her". The girls learned about the different types of bullying, how they can affect friendships and how to deal with bullying incidents. The class took part in a slogan competition and we had some mindful moments in our room. Thanks to 5th and 6th bakers for the lovely buns for coffee morning and we finished up with disco. Great fun all round!
MARCH 2017-This busy month began with some final preparation for our Sing out Loud performance in the INEC in killarney. the girls have really enjoyed their singing and the trip to Killarney was a great experience. Everybody made the most of the day with fantastic singing. Well done girls!
Walk for Water- This global event took place on March 22nd to raise awareness and empathy with children around the world who do not have access to clean drinking water. The girls collected water from the local river and walked through our local parks. It was fun and the children thought of some novel ways to carry the water.
Kanturk Arts Festival WINNER!!- A huge congratulations to LAURA ENRIGHT who won the overall and category prize for her beautiful picture entitled "What if..." Laura has a special talent in Art and she is a worthy winner.
Book Fair 2017- The girls dressed up on Tuesday as their favourite book character and enjoyed the opening of the book fair.
EASTER RAFFLE- A big thank you to everybody who supported the Easter raffle and well done to our winners.
APRIL NEWS- Welcome back after a lovely Easter break. Back to a hectic term!!!!- camogie, Communion choir, National Spring Clean, Green Flag ceremony, Food Dudes, Fit for Fun project. That's just for starters!!!
May News Fit 4 School. We are taking part in a ten week fitness programme to promote physical activity and well being.Every day the girls will do 10 - 20 minutes of fun avtivities both at a school and at home.This week we are focusing on agility.
Camogie lessons with Esther O Leary will continue for the next six weeks.
I am hoping for a big positive response to Food Dudes from the class. We are trying to promote healthy eating with this programme.
FOLENS READING - Each week the girls read a fiction/non fiction book, followed by activities. The books are paced at the child's ability and it would be great if the parents took part in this shared reading project to promote reading. This will take place over the next few weeks.
Laura wins Again !!!!!!!!!!!!! Another well deserved win for Laura. This is the third time Laura has won this year. She won her category at the Ballyhass May Fayre. Congrats also to Olivia who won at Ballyhass.
Well done to Amy, Lauren and Olivia who won books for their winning stories on the clic news website. Happy Reading!!!
June- We have come to the end of a very busy month in Fourth class. We had winners in the Cork city sports, active school week, school sports. Well done to Naoise and Gabriela who were part of the winning relay team in Cork. Well done to the Green school reps for all their work in raising the third green flag.
I would like to thank my wonderful Fourth class for all their hard work during the year. I hope you all have a brilliant Summer!!
