1916 Commemoration Ceremony March 2016

Our 1916 Commemoration Ceremony took place on Tuesday, 15th of March 2016. The school hall was packed with parents, grandparents, extended family and members of our local community. A special tribute was given to Ned Harnett who is 99 years and was born a year after the rising.

There was music, poetry and song and our MC's Sarah Jordan and Clodagh Hogan gave us an outline of the events surrounding the 1916 rising. Our new proclamation was read by our pupils and signed by a pupil from each of our 7 classrooms. It was also signed by Detective Sergeant Gray, Canon Jackie Corkery (Our Chairperson), Derval Vaughan (Principal), Helen Sexton (SNA), Cathy Linehan (Parents Association) and Áine O'Leary (Community Council).

The flag was raised outside by the oldest pupil in our school Ciara Mc Carthy and the youngest pupil David Humphreys. Young & older all sang Amhrán na bhFiann together. An emotional and proud occassion to be Irish. The ceremony was not complete without a cuppa and cake and of course a tri colour iced bun especially iced by Third Class.

We are very proud of all our pupils who performed so well for our school commemoration and the teachers who prepared them for the event. Many thanks to all who supported and helped out.
